Welcome to Altamont!
Nestled in the rolling hills of the Municipality of Lorne, Altamont is a charming rural community of about 70 residents. Peaceful, friendly, and full of character, Altamont truly lives up to its name — “Top of the Hill.” Founded in 1884 and originally known as Musselboro, Altamont has a rich history and a strong sense of community pride.
Our historic rink, built in 1919, is one of the oldest natural ice rinks still operating in Canada. Each winter, it comes alive for the annual bonspiel held on the third full weekend in January, as well as Crokincurl and Belgian bowling tournaments — with a few bats in the rafters keeping watch!
The Altamont Inn, formerly the Altamont Hotel, continues to welcome guests and is owned and operated by Darcy Lafrenière. In addition, for gatherings big or small, our Community Hall is an excellent and affordable venue for weddings, reunions, and special events. To book, contact Donna Fortier at (204) 825-8545.
Whether you’re stopping in for a visit, joining a local event, or simply enjoying the quiet charm of small-town Manitoba, Altamont offers a warm welcome and a place to feel right at home.
